SUSPEKT at Parken Stadium Copenhagen 2023
A notable example of my ability to create spectacular and innovative live experiences is my long-standing collaboration with the Danish hip-hop group Suspekt.
A highlight was their one-off show at Copenhagen’s 47,000-capacity National Parken Stadium in September, where I designed both the ambitious scenographic concept and the striking lighting. Production management was handled by Jonas Friss, with 4K Projects responsible for project management. Pre-programming was carried out by Sune Verdier and myself.
This included two large video screens tilted 35 degrees down over the stage. The dramatic angle created a unique perspective effect that delivered an intense and immersive experience for the audience – even in a large arena. In addition, I designed a 48-metre-long catwalk that was lowered from the ceiling during the concert. This theatrical element allowed Suspekt to get close to the audience in the middle of the show and reinforced the raw, present energy the group is known for.
For the lighting, I created a dramatic system built around wash-style fixtures chosen for their large light surface and ability to deliver strong visual fill. The entire show was based on this wash approach – not a single gobo – because for a hip-hop band it is about creating space and emotions rather than sharp profile looks. I also needed fixtures that could light effectively from a height of 20 metres all the way down to the floor, with powerful output and clean colour mixing.
I arrayed the fixtures in 10 pods of 4 × 3 units, plus a row of 48 more on the floor upstage, for a total of 168 units in a mix of wash and FX versions. The strong, colourful and punchy design matched the band’s hard-hitting style perfectly.
The concert was the band’s biggest show to date, and the combination of the tilted screens, the descending catwalk and the expansive wash lighting delivered an intense, immersive experience that captured Suspekt’s raw energy.
